The Foreign Minister Waszczykowski, Ayrault and Steinmeier arrived at Schloss Ettersburg together near Weimar to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the discussion forum Weimar Triangle. In this loose foreign policy discussion and consultation forum of Germany, France and Poland, the three countries will exchange at irregular intervals and guidance on the process of European unification. The objective is the coordination of the policies of the three countries and the strengthening of European integration, without excluding other states.

The establishment of the Weimar Triangle goes to a meeting of foreign ministers of the three countries, Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Roland Dumas and Krzysztof Skubiszewski, on 28 and 29 August 1991 at Weimar, Thuringia back. In its 10 points comprehensive “Joint Declaration on the Future of Europe” stressed the three ministers that carry significant responsibility for the success of lasting structures of European neighborhood Poland, German and French.

Cooperation in the ‘Weimar format’ should serve from the outset to introduce not only Poland, but also the other new democracies in Central and Eastern Europe to the European Community. After the enlargement of the European Union in 2004, the Weimar Triangle was increasingly a discussion forum of equal partners on topical European issues.
